Resume

I’m a professional with over 10 years’ experience; specialising in marketing, content creation and copywriting for the past 6 years. When I worked in the non-profit sector, I honed my communication and marketing skills which resulted in securing an Employability Passport award by Humber LEP in 2019 and over £600k fundraised through bid writing by the time I left in 2022. These accomplishments secured my current role as a Marketing Executive, where I create high-quality written content and promote Squideo and its clients.

I also run my own business, Moose Proofreading, through which I offer proofreading, editing and copywriting services. I first started proofreading in 2014 while I was completing my undergraduate degree, but expanded the side-hustle into a business in 2020 when the pandemic and subsequent lockdowns reduced my weekly working hours at Toranj Tuition and ICOH.

I am looking to move into full-time work, in a role that allows me to develop my copywriting and marketing skills even further.

Education

University of Hull

I completed my BA Hons in American Studies and English Literature (2:1) in 2015, and my Master of Research (MRes) History in 2017. My dissertation was on the television series M*A*S*H and the Vietnam War.

San Jose State

During my undergraduate degree, I spent a semester at San Jose State University in California. While there, I lived at an international house which supported students from over 70 different countries and took a class in screenwriting.

Secondary Education

I attended Newland School for Girls and Wyke Sixth Form College. At Wyke, I took part in an essay competition for and attended the UNIQ Summer School at Oxford University. I also worked as an editor on Wyke's student newsletter.

Training

Data Protection (2021)

Teaching English as a Foreign Language, Level 5 (2019)

Reading and Writing in Italian, Entry Level 2 (2018)

Experience

Squideo Ltd.

As Squideo's Marketing Executive, I conduct client meetings to produce engaging scripts and storyboards that meet the client's specifications. I manage the social media accounts for Squideo and their client - American Chip Spice - and run email marketing campaigns. The job also involves supporting the team with administration and document creation.

Toranj Tuition

Originally employed as a Tutor in 2017, I was later added to the team as a Fundraising and Outreach Officer before being promoted to Project Coordinator in 2019. I oversaw their adult education programme, managed the tutors, provided office administration, created website copy and wrote bid applications.

ICOH

As the Heritage Investigative Officer for ICOH, I developed research for their community projects. This included a collaboration with the Hull and East Riding Museum on Life in Lockdown, an archive which collected artwork, photographs, videos and narratives created during the pandemic in 2020.

University of Hull

To supplement my part-time work, I also take on freelance work for the University of Hull as an Exam Invigilator. Typically, I work in the alternative needs exam rooms with students who require extra support. Working on a rota, I also take shifts as a Chief Invigilator, which necessitates additional administrative duties to ensure the exams run smoothly.

Moose Proofreading

I started offering proofreading services in 2014 while I studied my undergraduate degree at the University of Hull. I decided to expand my university-based side hustle into a business in 2020. I now offer proofreading services for businesses and individuals in and around Kingston upon Hull.

In addition to proofreading, I am also a writer. Currently, I am working on my first novel The Brothers Gray.

House of Fraser

Before graduating, I worked in retail. My final position was as a Concession Sales Assistant at House of Fraser for Hull City of Culture 2017's sales stand.

The highlight of my time there was when we were all given ice lollies during a heatwave as the air conditioning didn't work. Best day ever.

HMV

In 2016, I worked as a Stockroom Assistant for HMV. There, I processed new stock, invoices and answered customer calls.

While there, I learnt I knew way too much about James Taylor when I took a call from a customer looking for one of his songs to play at a funeral. I described each one until we settled on You've Got a Friend.

Disney Store

As a Cast Member for the Disney Store in 2012, I acted as a sales assistant but also provided entertainment for children visiting the store.

It closed a month after I finished my seasonal contract, but I swear I had nothing to do with that.

Volunteer Work

Committee Member & Trustee

Since 2021, I have volunteered for the Victoria Dock Village Hall Community Association. Here I volunteer at community events and attend monthly committee meetings and bi-monthly resident meetings.

Pioneer Volunteer City of Culture

I was a Pioneer Volunteer in 2016. Primarily working as a steward at organised events, I also took part in the recruitment drive for subsequent new volunteers and helped interview prospective candidates.

Classroom Assistant

From 2013-14, I volunteered at Victoria Dock Primary School (my former school) during my undergraduate degree. Supporting children with their reading and teachers in lesson delivery, I also created board displays and props for school plays.
